Ahead of the the 2023 election, some aggrieved members of the All Progressives Party (APC), Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State have warned moves by some party leaders to insert names of about 1000 new members, who are loyal to one of the opposition aspirants, into the list of the APC members in Ibarapa North.
The aggrieved members in a statement alleged that some of the leaders of the party in the Senatorial District had concluded plans to favour a particular aspirant from the opposition party.
The aggrieved APC members queried the attempt by some of the leaders of the party in the zone to jettison the zoning arrangement as agreed by founding fathers and relevant stakeholders of the constituency. “This has been preserved over the years to enshrine a high sense of togetherness among the five communities that make up the Ibarapa Central and North constituency.
“We wish to reiterate that this cunning plot by some members of the state excos is a deliberate attempt to destroy the fortune of Ibarapa North/Central APC in the coming general elections.”
The members said it had uncovered a clandestine plot by some APC leaders from Ibarapa North, who have compromised, to concede the ticket to their preferred aspirant as against the wishes of the members.
“We advise these leaders to be careful as this will amount to selling the rights of Ibarapa North to another zonezone.”
The aggrieved members said while they welcome the new aspirant from another party, the aspirant should not come with the intention of getting an automatic ticket. “We must respect party faithful and other aspirants who have spent hugely, and been selflessly committed to the stability of progress despite the promotion of their respective ambitions.
