Bandits yesterday evening invaded a community, killing All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Aribi Ward of Kagarko council in Kaduna State, Mr Iliya Auta, and one other person.

Police spokesman Muhammad Jalige said he was yet to be briefed on the incident, but a source in the community said Auta was killed on his farm while another person with him sustained bullet wounds.

The source said Auta was not the target, but the bandits saw him making a call, which was mistaken for a report on them, so they shot him dead.

“After close of work on his farm, the APC Ward chairman was about going back home but his car developed an electrical fault and he was trying to call an electrician to come and fix it not knowing that the bandits were behind him. They thought he was calling the villagers to report their presence. That was how they shot him and he died instantly and the other person with him also sustained bullet wounds,” the source said.

“One other person by name Tanko was killed in another village called Kuchi and another person sustained injury and in critical condition in the hospital. The bandits also made away with eight motorcycles and several cattle but to the best of my knowledge, there was no known kidnap of any persons,” he said.

Another source said a number of persons were abducted.
