Nine persons were on Wednesday brought out alive from the rubbles of a two storey building that collapsed at Area 5 Extension Umuguma in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The victims were successfully rescued from the incident, which happened in the morning hours.
OCDA General Manager Engr. Francis Chukwu, confirmed that nine victims trapped in the building were rescued successfully.
He however expressed displeasure over the collapse, pointing out that indepth investigation would be carried out to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the building collapse.

Chukwu, who inspected other buildings around the area, directed the owners to report to the agency for recertification pointing out that the vibration of the collapsed building could pose some effects on the other buildings near it.
One of the survivors, Eke Martins, narrated how he and his family escaped from the collapsed building.
He noted he managed to escape with his family members numbering eight.
“Though my last child sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said.
