Former President Olusegun Obasanjo last night said Nigeria is a complex country, but not difficult to manage if the citizens are honest.
He said an individual could not provide the solutions to the nation’s challenges, adding that collective efforts of all Nigerians were required to address the problems.
The elder statesman spoke with reporters shortly after he received the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, former governor of Cross River State Donald Duke and others in his penthouse within the sprawling Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Wike visited the ex-president in continuation of his consultations across the six geopolitical zones.
Obasanjo, who acknowledged Wike’s courage in the way he pursued his ambition, reminded his guests that he had long ceased being a partisan politician, but noted that he would continue to seek the welfare of Nigerians.
He said if Nigeria enthroned the basic ingredients that would bring unity and inclusiveness, all other things would take their position to help remove conflict, and the country would be able to solve insecurity and other problems.
Wike said zoning was in the constitution of the PDP and in line with the nation’s constitution that also provided for fairness and equity, adding that the party had thrown its presidential ticket open and he was prepared to go through the primary election.
He said: “I’m confident that I have what it takes to win the PDP primaries and also win at the general election. I pledge to work for the unity, stability and security of the country and Nigerians.”
