Gunmen kill NPC chief, abduct children

Gunmen yesterday killed a former Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Mr. Zakari Umaru-Kigbu in Nasarawa State, and abducted two of his daughters.

Umar-Kigbu was attacked at his residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia council of the state, The Nation learnt.

The gunmen also demanded N50 million for the release of the two abductees.

The deceased, aged 60, was a retired Air Force officer and a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, lsa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia (IMAP).

Police spokesman Ramhan Nansel confirmed the attack but said the Command was not aware of the N50 million ransom demand.
