Life of Lagos State governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, yesterday kicked off a measles immunisation campaign for citizens.

The kick-off, which took place at Kosofe Local Government Council headquarters in Ogudu, will run from June 17 till July 4th across the state.

The programme will also avail residents of routine immunisation antigens and provide COVID-19 vaccine for people of 18 years and above.

Dr Sanwo-Olu, a medical doctor, described the health programme as ‘integrated campaign against measles.’

She said measles is a highly contagious disease with symptoms such as rash and heat and passed from child to child during play and interactions.

The good news, she said, is that it is vaccine preventable, adding that “prevention is better than cure.”

Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, Moyosore Ogunlewe, urged mothers to ensure their kids be immunised.

He said: “I urge residents to take advantage of this campaign by allowing eligible children (between nine and 59 months) to be immunised against measles irrespective of their status.”

He said: “Measles is an acute viral respiratory illness, characterised by a prodrome of fever, cough, coryza, highly contagious followed by a maculopapular rash. The initial infection could come with severe complications or even death.”

He implored Kosofe citizens to take advantage of the council’s primary health centres in Ogudu, Oworo and Mende.
