Guinea Bissau President Umaro Embalo has been elected as the Chairman of the Authority of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He takes over from Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo, who held forth for about two years.
He was elected yesterday at the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government 61st Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana.
The Heads of State will be considering reports from the Council of Ministers meeting, which held from June 30 to July 01, in Accra and other issues affecting the region.
Also announced is the appointment of Gambia’s Omar Alieu Touray as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission.
He replaces Cote d’Ivoire’s Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.
Brou assumes office as Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) today.
