Gunmen abduct top NDDC official, demand N10m

Gunmen have kidnapped a top official of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engr Kingsley Okorafor.

He was abducted close to his residence at Umuadara Umulogho Autonomous Community, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo.

The incident which happened at the early hours of Saturday caused serious panic in the community.

The incident occurred about three kilometres away from a military checkpoint in the area.

Traditional Ruler of the community Eze Patrick Uwalaka confirmed the incident.

A family source who pleaded anonymity said that the victim attended a vigil of the traditional ruler of Ndihu Autonomous Community in Obowo LGA, the late Eze Innocent Anyawu on Friday night.

Anyawu is slated for burial Saturday July 16.

The source further disclosed that the NDDC staff was trailed after he left the vigil for his community where he was abducted, while his car  was left behind.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO,) CSP Mike Abattam confirmed the incident to The Nation. “It is true and we are on top of the matter.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the abductors have established contacts with his family, and are demanding N10 million as ransom though none of his family members could confirm it when contacted.
