An expectant mother was among 12 persons whisked away yesterday as armed men attacked communities in Kaduna and Anambra states.
the woman was abducted from Lema community in the Mando area of Kaduna, opposite the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Seven other persons were kidnapped when the bandits entered three houses around 1am yesterday.
A resident of the area, Mr Abubakar Umar, said they were all in their homes when the bandits came and started shooting in the wee hours of yesterday.
Umar said the “bandits came around 1am and we were inside our houses, but we were all afraid to step out because of sporadic gunshots.
“They took away eight residents including a pregnant woman that came to visit her sick mother in the community. This is not the first time bandits would attack our community”.
The residents expressed apprehension and called on the state government to come to their rescue.
The government was yet to comment on the incident at press time.
Police spokesman Mohammed Jalige said he would find out the details and get back to our reporter.
However, he did not do so as of the time of filing this report.
Also, in Anambra, gunmen abducted four travellers yesterday.
The assailants equally set ablaze their own Hilux vehicle and made away with a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to one of their victims.
The incident happened around 3pm at Nise market in Awka South local government area of the state, a few kilometers from the Governor’s Lodge at Amawbia.
The Nation learnt that the suspects first robbed some persons before making away with the SUV.
The operation by the hoodlums, according to a source, lasted about 30mins.
Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident.
He said the suspects were being trailed by security operatives, who had been deployed by the State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng.
Already, Tochukwu said security operatives had cordoned off the area to protect the residents, while investigation continued.
He said, “We’ve not got the details of the incident, but our men have been deployed to the area.”
