Police in Kano have arrested 200 criminal suspects in 24 days, Commissioner of Police, Bompai Command Headquarters, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, said yesterday.
Five human trafficking victims were rescued within the period, he said.
Among the suspects are 42 suspected armed robbers, nine kidnappers, 16 fraudsters, two human traffickers, 27 vehicle and tricycle thieves, 12 drug dealers and 92 thugs known in the local parlance as ‘Yan Daba.’
Twenty-five rifles, including three AK-47, one micro-Uzi, a pistol, one Pump Action, 10 locally-made pistols and nine Dane guns were recovered.
Many other items were also recovered, including 12 motor vehicles, seven tricycles, three motorcycles, 122 knives, 269 parcels and 265 wraps of dried leaves of Indian Hemp valued N2.7 million and 74 bottles of Suck and Die substance.
“In our effort to effectively police Kano State, we intensify community policing engagements, constant raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, Intelligence-led and Visibility Policing, rapid response to distress calls, full adherence to the ethics of the force and synergy with sister security agencies and community policing stakeholders,” Commissioner Dikko said.
