‘Why we fumigated homeless shelter’

Ikeja Viva L’amour Lions club has fumigated Ozonam House, a shelter for the homeless and destitute.

The president, Agnes Duke, said this project was one of the ways Lions Club cares for the environment.

“Ozanam House is a training home where homeless women live and are taken care of. They complained about pests, so we came to help them rid the compound of pests and protect our environment.

“Health is wealth and rodents and snakes around the house will pose danger to their health. We need to rid the environment of these harmful pests,” she said.

Representative of the Sister in charge of the house, Mary Okeke, appreciated the help extended to the House by the club.

“What they have done for us is a great help because these pests have been disturbing all parts of the house, especially the kitchen,” she said.

Okeke called for empowerment programmes for the ladies to take them off the streets and give them a chance at a better life.
