Bandits kill six, steal foodstuff in Plateau attack

No fewer than six people were killed in an attack by bandits in Pinau village of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The bandits also stole several food items from the area.

Spokesman of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Major Ishaku Takwa told The Nation that troops had been drafted to the area.

Residents of the area said the bandits arrived in the community around 3pm, shooting.

Many were injured during the attack, they said.

Five days earlier, the residents raised the alarm over the withdrawal of soldiers from the area, a development which forced many to flee their homes to Wase town, headquarters of the Wase council.

Musa Wase, a resident of the area, who fled his home told The Nation that the assailants came on motorcycles, carrying heavy guns.

He said, “Before the arrival of the bandits, hundreds of residents of the community had already fled because of the fear of being attacked, and that is why the casualty figure is not much.

“The bandits broke into our shops and stole food items and other properties. They also kidnapped some people.”
