Lagos hosts NAFEST 2022 technical meeting

Lagos State has hosted the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) Technical Committee for Eko 2022 programme in Ikeja.

It was held from July 25 to 28.

Delivering opening address during the opening  ceremony, Governor Babajide  Sanwo-Olu, represented  by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat  Akinbile- Yusuf, expressed delight that Lagos was granted the rights for NAFEST 2022, noting that three other states  vied for the festival.

The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for promoting arts and culture to boost tourism, describing him as a “special breed”.

He said the national stakeholders meeting was an avenue to interact, review and appraise plans for the impending event, noting that the theme for this year’s edition is “Culture and peaceful co-existence.

”The committee inspected venues and facilities for the event.

The opening and closing ceremonies will hold at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, while other events will hold at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Runsewe and other members of the delegation expressed satisfaction about the venues, saying it was a plus that the events would hold at the same place that could also accommodate participants, which would make their activities to run seamlessly.

He said they were confident that the venues would be ready before the event.  The delegates visited the governor and his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who was accompanied by the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat.
