Nigeria’s Elizabeth Oshoba became the first Nigerian boxer to qualify for the final of the boxing event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Oshoba who competed in the women’s featherweight defeated Australia’s Tina Rahimi 4-1 to be in a position to fight for the gold medal in the event.
Earlier, Cynthia Ogunsemilore lost the semifinal bout to settle for the bronze medal in the women’s lightweight to England’s Amy Broadhurst 5-0 after the five judges awarded the three rounds to the Briton. With this Ogunsemilore claimed Nigeria’s first medal in the boxing event.
