Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) held her women committee delegates conference at her Lagos secretariat office. The election was a peaceful and well-coordinated as delegates elected their new officials unopposed.
The National Auditor of the union who also served as the Retuning Officer at the delegate conference, Segun Olaniyi commended the outgoing officers even as he charged the new executives to leverage on improved service delivery.
Olaniyi noted that the peaceful conduct of the election was as a result of the cooperation and unity of the members and was confident that the incoming executives will do more.
“It was a consensus, very peaceful, well-organised, well-composed and very open. We at the national are expecting the new executive to perform more than their predecessor; we believe women are great, men are equally great. We want new development from them. We are the first union to recognise women; we have them at all level of the union in Nigeria,” Olaniyi stressed.
Echoing similar sentiments, the First Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Lagos state chapter, who also doubles as Lagos state chairman of MHWUN, Tajudeen Gbadamosi in his goodwill message said, “I have a formidable team of women who have been working very had that is why the change of baton record this huge success and we know that we will have a better team to work with the state council in the future.”
Responding, the newly elected chairperson of MHWUN, Oluwatoyin Salisu assured that she will continue with the legacies of her predecessor’s. “My predecessor did very well and I appreciate her success and will follow her footsteps. I hope to organise programmes that will improve the life of members and move the union to a level with side by side with our male counterparts. I will operate all-inclusive membership in our team and carry everyone along,” she enthused.
