Leading EdTech App ULesson partnered The Middlestump to run the 2022 Greenshoots Sumer Cricket Camp at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos.
The cap was run in conjunction with the Nigeria Cricket Federation between August 15th and 19th .
Tayo Sowole, Vice President, Sales for the outfit said that ULesson beyond leading innovation in the technology adoption in the education industry sees the cricket camp as an opportunity to further engage the youth in learning.
“We are very involved in anything that will drive the youth toward learning, indoor and outdoor and this Cricket camp offers the platform to help them develop further, the culture of learning something new,” he said. “Over 100 kids from ages of three to 13 are currently participating in the weeklong events tagged “Cricket is Fun”.
Leke Oyede, National Women’s Team Head Coach who volunteered at the event, said he was highly impressed with the turnout at the event.
“I think independent promoters of the event like The Middlestump should be commended in the number of contributions they are putting into developmental cricket. This in a lot of ways complimenting the effort of the Nigeria Cricket Federation at reaching more people with the game.”
Oyede said most of the kids that took part in the event may eventually not play cricket, but the game has won fans, since on the average they will leave the camp with the knowledge of how the game is played, the goals and the overreaching values that guides it.
The children were taught on the rudiments of the game, Batting, Bowling, Fielding, Scoring and Umpiring, Field Dimension, Career Opportunities in Cricket among others.
Malik Eleshinla, Jeremiah Ogbu and Peter Isari were also spotted as exceptional talents at the event; they are 9, 10 and 11 year old respectively.
Olumide Akintokun of The Middlestump said that the event was a show of support for the Nigeria Cricket Federation and the sports at large.
“Cricket has been very helpful in shaping some of us and we owe it a duty to create the same level of opportunity for more people and again, support the Nigeria Cricket Federation, in their growth agenda.”
The Nigeria Cricket federation has a goal to reach 250, 000 new entrants for the game annually.
