Fifteen monarchs in Osun West Senatorial District, led by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, have appealed to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to approve the rehabilitation of 55.4KM Iwo/Osogbo road.
Oluwo, flanked by monarchs from seven local government areas of the district, said at a news conference that Oyo and Osun governments agreed in June to award contract for the reconstruction of the 84.6KM Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road, promising to start the project in July.
Oba Akanbi appealed to Governor Oyetola to rehabilitate his own part, warning that abandoning the road would make it a haven for ritualists, kidnappers and other criminals.
He said over seven local governments were affected by the bad road and urged the government to conclude plan on its rehabilitation, which would foster regional integration, boost food production and improve security along the corridor.
The monarch said: “Abandoning the road has grave implications for insecurity in the areas affected, as it is beginning to make the road look unkempt, bushy and isolated. The state government has listed this area as one of the areas being inhabited by criminals seeking to unleash terror on the people.
“We don’t want this to happen. So, we are appealing to our governor to help us prevent this by approving the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Iwo road up to the Osun-Oyo states boundary. We appeal to Governor Oyetola to make this road one of his legacies in Osun State.”
