A private eye hospital, Health Custodian Ltd. based in Lalupon, Ibadan, Oyo state had just concluded the 12th edition of its corporate social responsibility and giving back to community.
A statement by Managing Director of the hospital Dr. Abdulwaheed Ibraheem, said the hospital’s bi-monthly philanthropic intervention started in 2020.
He said the two-day free eye screening attended to 131 cases with 143 bottles of eye medications dispensed.
Dr Ibraheem, a consultant Ophthalmologist, said 30 free eye glasses were issued and five patients had surgeries performed on them.
The ophthalmologist advised attendees at the programme to desist from seeking alternative medications for eye care.
He also appealed to philanthropists, non-governmental organisations and religious communities to continue to touch lives at the grassroots so that collectively the war against blindness can be sustained.
He added that ‘in spite of the low cost of surgeries, many couldn’t afford them because of widespread poverty among the populace’.
He reminded all present that once someone goes blind, he is dependent on others for ever emphasizing that prevention is better than cure.
Dr. Ibraheem was assisted in the two day eye screening exercise by a consultant Ophthalmologist from the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, Dr. Olatoke Nafisat Oluwadamilola.
