HOUSEHOLD brand, Sunlight, has restated its commitment to support women entrepreneurs.
Sunlight runs a programme, called Shakti, an initiative providing women in rural areas with products to resell so they could earn money.
In addition, the brand has partnered Leading Ladies Africa, a women-focused non-profit group, to recognise women across different business spheres.
Speaking at a brand workshop in Lagos, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director of Unilever West Africa Soromidayo George said: “the goal of Sunlight Shakti programme is to help African women achieve financial security and move from low-income to middle-income …”
Category Manager of Homecare Oladapo Oshuntoye said thousands of over 6,000 rural women had been empowered since the launch of Shakti in 2004.

‘’We want to do our part in unlocking their potential so that they can thrive and contribute to a bold narrative about women’s success, Oshuntoye said.
The Shakti programme articulates Sunlight’s work across the African continent, building communities of women entrepreneurs who want to do more and achieve more.
The rollout of various programmes has been country-specific, targeting women’s unique challenges.
Sunlight will roll out further activities across the continent over the next three years pecific to the needs of various communities to support African women.
