Opportunity beckons for models as a reality show focusing on them berths in Lagos.
Initiator of Dynamic Pageant Reality show Thierry Kome said this would open doors for ladies and bring development to the sector.
Speaking at the unveiling in Calabar, Victoria, Lagos, Kome said as the demand for models and pageants rises, modelling agencies out of Africa should be better organised and create contests with wider reach.
He said modeling and pageantry provide a springboard to the entertainment and media industry.
But she lamented that the space lacks a champion platform to bring players together and take the lead in paving the way, such as Project Fame, Nigerian Idols did for music.
“My journey with this started in Manchester where I opened a modelling company, the main purpose was to incorporate more Africans into the industry, but it seems as if I got it wrong because almost 90 per cent applying for modelling jobs were Europeans, and when you look at the population of Africa in United Kingdom, it is exploding, and I thought we should have Africans in the industry … “We realised there has never been a reality TV show that embodies modern models. So, we decided to go that route to see how we can shine lights and bring the models aspiring into the market.
The Cross River State-born entrepreneur explained: “We are giving the platform for whoever wishes to become a model. The application has opened and it will end on September 18, and start auditioning for 1000 applicants but 25 will be going into the house. Contestants will be housed for eight weeks. The contestants will go into the house on September 20..
Winners will go away with opportunities and gifts in cash and kind.
Speaking on what attracted her to the project, the patron, Senator Florence Ita Giwa said: “I’m interested in any human development project, especially the girl child. I develop children … giving them confidence and upholding family values.
There is nowhere worse than the creek of Bakassi.
My fulfilment in life is not because I won four elections as a politician, my fulfilment is people that I have developed. Some kids would have perished in the creek, become militants, and died in the sea. Some girls would have been abused because in the creak there’s no activity than procreation. So, once a girl reaches the age of puberty, they impregnate them.
Till today, I have not seen a Naomi Cambel in Nigeria so, I hope from this project, a model at that level will be produced.
On his part the Project manager, Anthony Adeniyi, talked about sponsorship opportunities, working with the best hands in the sector, partnership and the importance of proper grooming.
An award in recognition of her contributions to the girl child, the less privileged and support to humanity was also presented to Senator Ita Giwa at the event.
