The “victim” of the alleged organ harvesting case involving former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice – David Ukpo – has urged a Federal High Court in Abuja to reverse its July 1 order for the release of his bio-data to the Ekweremadus.

The Ekweremadus had claimed that Ukpo agreed to donate his kidney to their ailing daughter.

In a fresh motion filed by his lawyer, Bamidele Igbinedion, Ukpo queried the competence of the proceedings that led to the issuance of the July 1, 2022 order by Justice Inyang Ekwo.

He claimed that his fundamental rights to fair hearing and personal privacy had been grossly violated by the proceedings, without his involvement.

Ukpo wondered why neither himself nor the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the nation’s Chief Law Officer, was made a party in the suit.

He sought to reverse the order permitting the release of his bio-data to the Ekweremadus for their defence before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London.

Ukpo also prayed the court to restrain the defendants, their agents, privies, staff members, and other workers from releasing any information about him to the Ekweremadus for their defence in the London court.

Defendants in the original suit, filed by the Ekweremadus, are: the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Stanbic IBTC Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System.

Justice Ekwo had, in a July 1 ruling, ordered the NIS, the NIMC and the banks to release the bio-data to the Ekweremadus, who claimed the information was needed for their defence in the United Kingdom (UK) court.

On July 6, upon an observation by lawyer to the NIMC, Justice Ekwo varied his earlier order and directed the NIMC to submit Ukpo’s bio-data to the AGF for onward transmission to the UK court where the Ekweremadus are being held for alleged organ harvest.

Justice Ekwo adjourned till September 13 for the hearing of Ukpo’s motion.
