Six persons have been reportedly killed in an attack by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba, confirmed the incident and said the matter had been reported to security agencies for investigation.

A member of the community, Steven Tyoor, said herdsmen who were armed with sophisticated weapons at about 7:30 pm on Thursday, stormed Tse Ortese Guma Local Government Area and opened fire on harmless villagers who had just settled down in their various houses.

Tyoor said in the melee that ensued, six persons were killed while others in attempt to escape sustained serious body injuries.

Guma Local Government Area shares boundary with Nassarawa State and report says there had been a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen who cross into Benue to carry deadly attacks.

The Benue State Police Command said they were yet to get information on the attack.
