The 2022 Zenith Bank Lagos Country Club Tennis Championship ended on a memorable note on Saturday with Idemudia Ujiagbe defeating his younger brother, Ehi 7-6(5), 6-3 to reclaim the Men’s Singles title.

An atmosphere for a colourful evening was set off by an exhibition match which saw Zenith Bank’s Head of Retail Banking Lanre Oladimeji posting a 6-4 win over Kola Sofola before the Men’s Singles A final was decided as Idemudia came back from 4-2 to force a tie break in a tight opening set.

The brothers  had earlier paired to capture the doubles crown at the expense of Ayo Oludemi and Tunde Olujobi and it was Idemudia, who lost to Destiny Da Silva in the final last edition, that took total control of the match after Ehi developed an ankle problem when scores were at 3-3..

Septuagenarian Tunde Adeniji showed class to clinch the Men’s Singles B title as he defeated Bolaji Sowemimo while Nimota Omope and Kemi Ujiagbe (Ehi’s spouse) defeated Lola Aluko and Ify Akpan  to clinch the women’s doubles.

Joro Olateru-Olagbegi paired John Nwosu to win the veterans doubles title with win over R. Odiah and G. Sanni.

Lagos Country Club President, Arc Funmi Bamkole expressed delight at the commitment of Zenith Bank to sustain the sponsorship of the tournament while tennis section chairman, Barr. Babatunde Fashanu (SAN) pledged to keep improving on the standard noting pointing its  one of the top events in the calendar of the section.

“This has  been a very successful tournament and we are already  looking forward to a bigger and better edition next year,” Fashanu said.
