The Southsouth Movement for Tinubu/Shettima yesterday promised to mobilise more people for the success of the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu/Senator Kashim Shettima ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rising from a meeting in Warri, Delta State, the group said the romance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the region had failed to produce the desired results.

The meeting, which was attended by senatorial coordinators, members of the National Executive and State Working Committees as well as delegates from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers states, was anchored by National Coordinator Besidone Samuel Eyengho.

After an incisive and exhaustive deliberation, the following decisions and resolutions were reached:

  • That the meeting commended the delegates, particularly the senatorial coordinators and members of the Executive Committees in the six states of the zone for the success recorded so far in marketing APC presidential ticket with a view to ensuring a resounding success for the party in the February 2023 general election.
  • That the meeting expressed optimism that the success of the campaign and consultations by SSMTS in the zone would automatically translate into resounding victory for the presidential ticket in the February 2023 elections.
  • That the members were mandated to intensify mobilisation in the nooks and crannies of the Southsouth, deepen consultation and continue to market the Tinubu/Shettima presidential ticket, to ensure a landslide victory in next year’s elections.
  • That Asiwaju Tinubu/Shettima Presidency perfectly represents the yearnings for a President of Southern Nigeria extraction, come 2023, as echoes in the Asaba Declaration of Tuesday, May 11, 2021 by the 17 Governors of Southern Nigeria.

  • That Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has epitomised consistency and stability in terms of political philosophy. His days, right from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), speak volumes. He is alien to political prostitution, associated with politicians moving from one political party to the other, in jostling for power.
  • That Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) designed the development blueprints for the present-day Lagos State, when he was governor. As Chief Executive of Lagos State, his versatility in corporate life and business was brought to bear. This was evident in the way and manner he increased the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos State from millions to billions on monthly basis and prioritised competence above ethnic/religious sentiments.
  • That unlike his peers, BAT has an uncommon vision of identifying potential leaders and mentoring them to the peak of their professional and political careers. This has greatly helped in the transition of power in Lagos State, from one governor to another since 1999, seamlessly keying into the development blueprints of the state. His running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, has equally exhibited this rare leadership quality by producing one of the most outstanding governors in Nigeria today, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, as his successor, among others.
  • That Asiwaju Tinubu is a pan-Nigerian (detribalised Nigerian). As governor of Lagos State, he appointed resourceful persons, who were not from Lagos State and the Southwest, into strategic political positions. Some of these persons grew their political and professional profiles under his leadership and are excellently serving the country in various capacities till date.
  • That Lagos is a mini-Nigeria and the pedigree of BAT is what Nigeria needs and that BAT has the potentials to repeat the Lagos wonders across the country and restore the nation’s lost glory.
  • That Tinubu/Shettima ticket is the answer to Nigeria’s multi-faceted problems, the best choice for the country today.

* That Nigerians should shun campaigns of calumny against Tinubu/Shettima ticket because it is part of the antics of desperate and drowning politicians.

  • That BAT is hale, hearty, agile and fit to tackle the challenges and demands of governance.
  • That Stakeholders in the zones should embrace the Tinubu/Shettima ticket to guarantee a prosperous Nigeria.
  • That sincere and concerned efforts should be made to return the Southsouth fully into mainstream national politics in order to ensure meaningful and accelerated development.
  • That the romance of the Southsouth with PDP since 1999 has failed to attract the much-needed development to the region.
  • That Tinubu/Shettima will return the Southsouth in particular and the country in general on the path of sustainable peace, socio-economic growth and development.
