Lagos State has organised a send off for 63 retirees.
At the event in Adeyemi Bero Hall at Alausa-Ikeja, retirees, friends, families and others were in attendance.
Head of Service Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, represented by Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary at Education District 1 Mrs. Margaret Solarin said the administration put in place initiatives and programmes to keep retirees active and connected to the government.
He listed the programmes as bi-monthly webinar, quarterly training and sensitisation, skill acquisition and vocational training and mentoring, among others.
Muri-Okunola admonished the retirees to leverage on opportunities provided to make them employers of labour and income earners.
He reminded them that government put in place a Post-Service Department to attend to their welfare and improvement in their life style.
“Let me remind our retirees that the government has put in place initiatives and programmes to keep our retirees active and remain connected to Lagos State government. Such programmes include bi-monthly webinar, quarterly training and mentoring scheme”, he said
Mrs Sunkanmi Oyegbola, top civil servant, acknowledged contributions of the retirees to the state.
She urged them to take care of their health, saying they should take advantage of services provided by the Post-Service Department.
Oyegbola hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the event, and the head of Service for support in the hosting.
Presenting the retirees, Director of Post-Service Department Bukanola Durodola advised them not to be tired in retirement.
She enjoined them to re-explore, upscale, learn and relearn, noting the key to longevity was being active.
