Over 30 aspirants contesting the stool of Alaafin of Oyo have been screened, as the exercise enters the fourth day yesterday.

It was gathered that the exercise taking place in the ancient city of Oyo has been peaceful and rancour free.

Sources said armed operatives of Amotekun and Police from Atiba Division mounted security to prevent intruders.

The screening, conducted by members of the Oyo Traditional Council (Oyo Mesi), led by its Chairman and the Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yussuf Akinade Ayoola Layinka 1, is observed by officials of the Atiba Local Government led by the Chairperson, Mrs. Kafilat Olakojo.

The screening began on Monday, starting from 10am everyday. Ten aspirants face the panel daily.

The Nation learnt that as planned, aspirants screened so far appeared before the panel with two witnesses to sign an undertaking after the screening.

The Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Bode Durojaiye, said the contestants, who arrived one after the other at the palace and accompanied by relations, interacted and embraced one another.

He confirmed that more than 30 aspirants have been screened.

“The contestants screened are getting excited, as they express satisfaction about the exercise.

“The first part of the screening exercise will end today (Thursday).

“There won’t be screening on Friday to pave the way for the Jumat prayer, while the second and last part will begin on September 12 and end on the 15.”
