How Nigeria can tackle insecurity, by SDP candidate

Adewole Adebayo

Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has urged the Federal Government to fight terror with vigour and determination.

He said insecurity had become a lucrative business and a conduit pipe for unscrupulous elements in power.

The candidate slammed the government for failure of project management and inability to generate revenue to stem budget deficit.

He said 80 per cent of the crude oil was stolen, alleging that the government knew those stealing the crude.

The standard-bearer said 4.4 billion dollars was lost monthly due to the mismanagement of the crude.

Adebayo, a lawyer and entrepreneur, said it was possible to wipe out Boko Haram and banditry in a 90-day military operation.

He told reporters in Lagos that insecurity would become a thing of the past if the Federal Government could demonstrate the will and capacity to fight it.

The presidential candidate alleged that some unpatriotic Nigerians were making money from insecurity, oil theft and oil subsidy to the detriment of the country.

He said while soldiers could win the anti-terror battle, only the government could win the war.

He said: “Insecurity will end when you have a Commander-in-Chief that is serious with what he is doing. He must be able to read every security report that comes to his table.

“But when you have a government that cannot keep teachers in class and cannot do other things that are necessary, such a government will have security problems. I believe this government is not really serious enough about fighting insecurity.

“In a 90-day military operation, Boko Haram will be wiped out and it will become history and that can only happen if the government is serious and determined about fighting the insurgency. Soldiers know how to win battles, but the government is the one that knows how to win the war.”
