To celebrate this year’s International Day of Charity, the Baale of Alasia town, Eti-Osa Local Government in Lagos State, Alhaji Okunmoyinbo Mustapha, has offered free medical check-up to residents. The free medical check-up, included eye check-up, blood pressure and sugar and malaria test, deworming, blood donation, medication, and medical advice.

According to Mustapha, the gesture was designed to bring free medical service to the doorsteps of residents Alasia, adding that it is part his humanitarian gesture in ensuring the residents are medically fit. “We are here for the purpose of humanity. As declared by the United Nations (UN), every 5th of September is set aside for International Day of Charity. This is the third edition that we are having. The first one we had was 2020 during Covid-19 outbreak,” he said.

He also urged the Lagos State government to bring public amenities to the reach of the community.  “We are doing our own bit. At Alasia, the government’s presence here is very low. We need other things that go along with development in the community. In terms of having health care centre here, government schools, specifically primary and secondary schools. We want government’s school here so that our kids won’t be going as far as government schools in Ajah to acquire education. We have land here. Government can make use of it for public usage,” he said.

Abiodun Ayiola, a beneficiary, urged the public to donate blood in saving lives. He said: “I’m here to donate blood. I appreciate the Baale for organising this outreach. It’s good to donate blood to save lives. Most sick people need it. People should try to save lives.”

A chief nurse officer at Mother and Care unit, Ajeromi General Hospital, Idowu Ayo Moradeun, commended the efforts of the Baale. “I am here to screen people’s health so that we could refer them to nearby government hospital and also to give them health education on healthy living and on their hygiene. We give out malaria and deworming medicine, check their blood pressure, eye check-up, sugar test and lot more. We also give them referral note to nearby hospital.”
