Community holds World Cleanup Day

Magboro community in Ogun State has marked its world cleanup day by engaging in a walk for recycling and environmental sustainability awareness and clean-up exercise in the community.

According to the organisers, the event at Magboro Community High School, Magboro in Ogun State, was  part of efforts to ensure environmental justice, upscaling its investment in the sustainability of the community through creation of better household waste management.

Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Oladimeji Oresanya, called for responsible waste management for a cleaner and healthier environment.

He said: “we need to create awareness and sensitize the community about keeping a clean environment, public hygiene, the benefit of community hygiene and the financial benefit of waste.

Magboro Community Development Council Chairman, Adesina Olukoga said the initiative was borne out of the need to curb waste dumping.

Chief Executive Officer of The Palm City Group, Yetunde Oyebade,  said people need to be informed about the value of waste being produced.
