Impeached Ogun Deputy Speaker Kadiri, lawmaker suspended

Hon. Oludare Kadiri

The crisis in Ogun State House of Assembly took a new dimension yesterday with the suspension of impeached Deputy Speaker Oludare Kadiri.

The house said Kadiri, the member representing Ijebu North II State Constituency, remains suspended till further notice.

The Nation learnt that he is alleged to be the petitioner, whose petition led to the arrest and ongoing prosecution of Speaker Kunle Oluomo and two others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Besides Kadiri, his Remo North counterpart Solomon Osho was also suspended.

The decision was taken against the two in line with Section 14 and 15 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017.

The suspension followed the adoption of a resolution during a plenary presided over by Oluomo at the assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Speaker had acknowledged the correspondence of Governor Dapo Abiodun dated August 22, 2022, which conveyed the request for the approval of the 2023-2025 State Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the House of Assembly.

Oluomo thereafter directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies to interface with the Committee on Finance and Appropriation on September 15 for further legislative action.
