9ice and Asake

Fans of music stars Abolore Akande aka 9ice and Asake have gone into a war of words over who is best on the music scene.

In a trend that took over 24 hours on Twitter, music lovers, fans, analysts and even politicians took to Twitter to play down a certain tweet insinuating that Asake is a better musician than 9ice.

The tweet saw numerous 9ice fans coming out to refute the tweet saying it is not only untrue but rather disrespectful to the Gongo Aso singer.

Close research by The Nation stated that the tweet was instigated by a user with the Twitter handle, Quickiepaedia.

The Twitter handle tweeted: “I feel Asake is a more talented and socially accepted act than 9ice.” The tweet which didn’t go well with 9ice’s fans aroused anger and emotions as they started to list every of 9ice’s musical achievements.

The tweet saw another response from a fan of 9ice, who tweeted, “Gongo Aso is bigger than Asake’s past, present, and future music career.”

Another user tweeted, “Is it the same 9ice that Buju called a source of inspiration? Like the same 9ice that made many non-Yoruba folks wanna sing Yoruba songs? Asake is good. It is his time. I love his album. The comparison is not needed.”

9ice hit the limelight in 2008 with his smash single ‘Gongo Aso’. He went on to win the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards, a MOBO award and swept four other awards at the 2009 edition of the Headies.
