Folk musician Beautiful Nubia has persuaded youths to stop comparing themselves to anyone.
The leader of the Roots Renaissance Band shared the motivation tips on his social media page.
“Yeah, I know your friends are doing great things. They’ve got the dream jobs and solid career paths,” Nubia said.
Continuing the ‘Owuro L’Ojo’ vocalist said, “They’ve got lives reflecting the glitter of success; everything they touch seems to turn to gold. It’s all so easy for them…well, according to their posts on social media.
“And you – feel like you’re stuck in a rut? Despite trying so hard, progress is slow. And life and opportunities just seem to be passing you by? Feels like you were born in the wrong place, at the wrong time? Take another look, young friend. You’re getting lost in the shuffle.”
He urged vulnerable youths to inflect on their achievement.
“This weekend, slow it down, count your blessings, however tiny they may seem compared to others (and you shouldn’t be comparing yourself to anyone anyway). You are unique and beautiful as Nature made you and you have a purpose to fulfill – whether it’s clear to you now or not. Go forward, one step at a time. Remember to celebrate each step!”
Born Segun Akinlolu in Ibadan on November 11, 1968, Beautiful Nubia is a songwriter, music composer, and band leader of the Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band.
