In today’s world, startups need to show deeper commitments in order to drive the desired growth in their businesses.

The Managing Director, Sahara Group, Kola Adesina made this useful nugget at this year’s edition of IGNITE Series 2.1organised by IGNITE Career Initiative held recently at the University of Lagos.

Speaking at the summit tagged, ‘Growing a Thriving Business in Nigeria,’ Adesina said entrepreneurs must have a winning mindset and exhibit passion, tact, discipline and persistently focus on their ideas.

According to him, Nigeria is in dire need of solution providers and not just lazy, layback people who do not see opportunities around them to make an impact, adding that if anyone has solutions to the mirages of challenges facing the country, this is the time to bring them forward.

On what has helped him in widening the challenges, the Sahara Group boss reiterated that his successor formula is “Constant improvement programme for self. I am always inquisitive to know more. I am fertile soil and looking for people who know more than I.”

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Her Global, Olaposi Lawore said that young people should take advantage of whatever situation they find themselves in.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Academic, Professor Bola Obo said the ivory tower will continue to support and build young entrepreneurs.

Although she lamented the ongoing Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) strike, said that the university has continued to build, train and develop young entrepreneurs and the results have been resounding.

“We have our entrepreneur centre and every student of UNILAG must be passed through that centre and will be given a certificate for those who are active. We register businesses for them. For some, we give money to startups. We are doing that for our youths so that they will become employers of labour in the near future.”
