Nigerians have been urged to embrace empowerment skills to create more jobs.
Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government in Lagos State Prince Usman Hamzat said those skills would ensure many Nigerians who are out of jobs become self-reliant.
He spoke during empowerment of 100 residents with Point of Sale (POS) machines and start-up capital.
According to him, the gesture was to eradicate poverty, build wealth, and raise millionaires from residents.
Hamzat reminded the public of his passion to see residents of Ifako-Ijaiye employed and be employers of labour.
The chairman said this was what informed his drive to empower people with skills and capital to kick-start their businesses.
He shared success stories of past beneficiaries, who grew the financial fortunes of their families, saying those stories motivated him to do more.
The council chief implored beneficiaries to use what had been given to them well so they could be part of the success stories in the future.
Representatives of organisations that partnered the council during the summit were Managing Director of ELFOT, Mr Joshua Aare; Team Leader of GOPA, Mr Pelk Bronk; Team Leader of GIZ-PME, Mr Kester Audi; Head of Growth at Nigeria NowNow, Mrs Oyenike Omoyele; Deputy Programme Director of Nigeria ISHK TOLARAM Foundation, Mr Ojo Olaolu Ivagba; Senior Business Programme Manager at Microsoft Africa, Mr Orimolade Oluwamuyemi; and National Senior MSME Development, Mr Lawal Ismaeel.
