Book honouring The Nation columnists Omatseye, Eriye, Olukorede for launch Thursday

A book in honour of three of The Nation celebrated columnists – Sam Omatseye (Chairman of the Editorial Board), Festus Eriye (Editor of The Nation on Saturday and Sunday) and Olukorede Yishau (United States Bureau Chief) – will be presented to the public on September 22.

The book, titled: The Patriots: Conversations with Nigerian Columnists and Public Intellectuals on Dividends of Democracy, Governance, Leadership and Nation-Building, is written by award-winning journalist and author, O’Femi Kolawole, and published by Posterity Media.

The presentation ceremony will hold at the Civic Centre on Ozumba Mbadiwe Street on Victoria Island in Lagos at 11 a.m.

The event will be chaired by respected media leader and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

Other distinguished columnists and public intellectuals in the book include 92-year-old Nigeria’s leading legal luminary and Founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), who has been writing a column for 50 years; frontline columnist and Co-founder of Newswatch magazine, Mr. Ray Ekpu; a former Pro-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Mr. Yakubu Muhammed; Daily Trust and Premium Times columnist, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, and another columnist with The Sun, Mr. Muiz Banire (SAN).

Also featured in the book are: Mr. Eniola Bello (Managing Director, ThisDay Newspapers), Ms. Ijeoma Nwogwugwu (Managing Director, Arise Television), Mr. Azuka Onwuka (widely-read Punch columnist), Mr. Owei Lakemfa (syndicated columnist with Vanguard), and Mr. Ikechukwu Amaechi (Publisher of TheNiche), among others.

Aside sharing the stories of Nigerian columnists, The Patriots also discusses socio-political and economic issues about Nigeria, the nation’s leadership recruitment process and how to improve it for better outcomes, the media industry, the 2023 elections and Nigeria’s future.

The book also contains uncommon insights and ideas towards actualising Nigeria’s greatness as a true giant of the Black Race.

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, is expected to deliver the keynote lecture at the event, with the theme: 2023 Elections: Right Choices and the Imperative of National Rebirth in Actualizing the Nigeria of Our Dreams.
