Local Government Vice Chairmen under the umbrella body of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairman of Nigeria (ALGOVC), have promised to synergise on ways to handle insecurity in their communities.
The Vice Chairmen said the first part of delivering value to their people is by enhancing the security situations of their various communities, towns and villages.
National Chairman ALGOVC and Executive Vice Chairman, Ikorodu LGA, Lagos state, Hon. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, said insecurity has challenged the Local Government Authorities (LGA) to synergise.
She said this in Abuja at a briefing in preparation for the upcoming 2022 annual national conference and award dinner of the body.

Her words: “The peculiar challenges in our country today has made it necessary for the local government authorities which hitherto existed in abstract to be up and doing in delivering effective services to the people. The issue of insecurity has challenged the local government authorities to synergise with the local communities to establish internal security arrangements, the vigilante and forest guards to ensure that the people sleep with their eyes closed.
“As top officials of the local government, we have in close collaboration with our most hard-working and committed bosses, the chairmen ensured that we deliver value to the people so as to enhance their living standard through improved socio-economic environment.
“The first step to actualising this is by the enhancement of security at our various communities, towns and villages, provision of critical infrastructure, including but not limited to road construction, repair and rehabilitation, provision of reliable power supply, construction, repair and equipping of schools, provision of potable water, maintenance of our markets to entrench a conducive atmosphere for commercial activities, construction and equipping of primary health care centres, access to economic opportunities through empowerment schemes for our women and youths and many more.
“The modest achievements which most local government areas in our country have recorded couldn’t be possible without the active support and collaboration we enjoy with the executive arm of government. Most governors have been very supportive in raising the bar of development in the grassroot. We applaud and urge them to remain leaders of reckon.”
