Lagos Rotary Club has partnered INS Tarkash Indian Navy on a one-day medical outreach.

One hundred and fifty persons benefited from the programme at  1D Alberto Road at Palmgrove Estate in Lagos.

Beneficiaries enjoyed free check-ups, medicines, malaria tests and blood sugar checks.

A beneficiary, Mr Mobolaji Bello, hailed the initiative, saying: “When I was told by my boss about a free check-up at the Temple, I was so happy because I have been trying to go and do this check-up and the bill they gave me was too high. I was unable to do it because of lack of funds.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Felicia Agbola, said she heard about the outreach from fliers shared on the street.

She thanked the team, adding that the outreach allowed her to know her health status.

Consul-General of India, Mr Chandramouli Kern, said the exercise, tagged ‘Family Health Camp’ was an initiative for a healthy Nigerian community.

He said the aim was for people who can’t afford hospital fee to get them free of charge.

He said it was tradition for the Indian Navy to organise a medical outreach with their kits where they visit a local community.

He said: “Nigeria and India have a bilateral relationship. The Indian Navy ship, which docked at Lagos port, returned from the Gulf of Guinea on September 8.

“The Indian pharmaceutical association helped the outreach with the medicine for Nigerians to benefit. This kind of health camp helps benefactors to know their health status so that they can get proper treatment from the doctors here or go for further investigations,” he said.

Past President of Rotary Club of Lagos – Palm Grove Estate, Mr Ramssh Biswal said the club was also getting set to carry out free cataract eye surgeries for 1,200 persons at Indo Eye Care Foundation located at Ajao Estate.

Speaking also at the outreach, the current president of Rotary Club of Lagos – Palm Grove Estate, Mr Kunal Sanghvi said the Rotary club which started fifteen years ago, has carried out the health camp outreach at the Temple quarterly a year.

He added that the club is also happy to have been consistent in its medical outreach in the past years in the Ilupeju community.

“It is a great opportunity for us at the club to serve people, paying back to our fatherland. We feel blessed and honoured for this opportunity to support our Nigerian brothers and sisters.”

The club secretary, Mr Anuj Murarka said the Indo Care Foundation was built by the efforts of the Indian community living in Nigeria (individuals and corporates) to help the nation.
