Residents relocate from River Benue as water level increases

Hundreds of residents along the bank of River Benue are moving out with their belongings following the flooding of their houses.

The volume of water is gradually on the rise with more houses submerging on daily basis.

There are fears it could get worse in the coming days.

When The Nation visited the flooded areas along Makurdi – Gboko road on kilo metre 4/5 ,most residents at Kucha Utebe, Agbadu, and Gaadi settlementS have moved out of the area for fear of flood.

Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have commenced the process of relocating the flood victims to dry land.

The Executive Secretary SEMA , Dr.Emmanuel Shior hinted The Nation that flood victims may be accommodated at the new International market.

On Thursday, Dr.Shior was sen at the new international market, inspecting stores and offices in the market which may likely host victims of the flood.
