Road users call on FG to fix Iju-Ota bridge

Iju-Ota bridge

The Chairman, Ogun State Riders and Owners of Motorcycle (ROMO), Alhaji Rasaq Shotayo has urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to, as a matter of urgency, embark on palliative measures that would prevent the high rate of accidents on Iju-Ota bridge along Sango-Idiroko expressway.

The transport stakeholder, while reacting to recent accidents on the ECOWAS road, mostly on the Iju-bridge, which has led to the death of no fewer than 10 people within a week, said it is high time government found a lasting solution to the deplorable condition of the expressway to prevent further fatalities.

Shotayo, who stated that there are no alternative accesses from the area except through the bridge, said the government should take action as quickly as possible.

He commended men of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police and other agencies who always work hard to ensure sanity returns to the road each time an accident occurred.

Shotayo also appreciated the residents for always responding swiftly each time there is a road mishap on the bridge, as the road always becomes impassable because of traffic congestion.

Recall that angry youth had trooped out en-masse early Friday, September 16, to block the ever busy expressway as a way of registering their displeasure over the bad state of the bridge. It took the intervention of the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, traditional rulers, police, TRACE and FRSC before normalcy was restored.
