‘Hardship forcing pupils out of school’

Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Muibi Alade Folawiyo, has blamed rising out-of-school rate to economic hardship.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) estimated rise in out-of-school rate in Nigeria to 15 million.

Folawiyo spoke during the second  My Kids and I programme, an initiative where pupils get two sets of uniform, cardigan and sport wear, sandals, branded exercise books, socks, bags and stationery, free.

He said: “My Kids and I is part of this administration’s commitment to the betterment of education among indigent pupils…

“A lot of children are out of school today because of lack of funds coupled with the hardshipworldwide.”

He pledged to give pupils in the council quality education, saying ‘’… Lagos Island East Montessori Nursery and primary school has admitted another 70 pupils to commence the new session.”

Folawiyo urged parents and guardians to support the council with prompt and payment of rates and levies.
