Badagry Local Government and its Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) played a draw in a football match to create awareness for the presidential candidacy of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming 2023 election.
The Chairman, Badagry LG, Hon Olusegun Onilude in an interview with newsmen said the novelty match to create awareness and brotherliness in the Councils.
He said: “We are doing everything to create awareness and promote brotherliness among ourselves.
“This is also to create awareness for our principal, Tinubu, the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress in the coming election,”
Chioma Ajunwa, a Nigerian former track and field athlete and football player, who won gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta said football is the highest unifying game in the whole world.
Ajunwa, an Assistant Commissioners of Police and one of the invited guests, said football is a game that has a language that everybody understands.
Another invited guest, Olympian Henry Amike, said the friendly match between the two councils would bring peace and unity.
According to him, this is a solidarity match in honour of the APC flagbearer in the presidential election.
Many residents of the Republic of Benin, Lagos, and Ogun states came to the St. Thomas football pitch, the venue of the match to watch the game.
The team Republic of Benin were the first to score a goal while Nigeria equalised in the second half.
The team Republic of Benin scored again and Nigeria equalised through penalty to end the game in a 2-2 draw.
