The United Nations Development Programme marked the 10th international day of the girl child on Tuesday 11 with the theme “Our rights, our future.”

In the last 10 years, the international day of the girl child has paid attention to the challenges that the girl child faces in education and their overall physical and mental well-being. It has also highlighted the power and strength of girls when given the appropriate skills and opportunities.

The UNDP took to the official website of the United Nations to share ways to get involved in the celebration of the girl child which included: “sharing human interest stories of girl change makers; engaging government officials, policymakers and stakeholders; engaging key female influencers across industries; and amplifying your commitment to raising awareness on factors holding girls back.”

The UNDP also shared a video on social media with the caption, “All girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life.
“Let’s enable girls to thrive in school, in politics, in business and in all aspects of their lives. Because investing in girls is investing in our common future. #DayOfTheGirl”
