There was wild jubilation on Thursday in Anambra over the ruling of the Appeal Court freeing the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

Residents hailed the ruling, describing it as a welcome development. They said it would end Monday’s sit-at-home across the region.

The apex Igbo sociocultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said the discharge was most welcome.

Its Vice President, Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene, said Nigeria and Southeast would now be free from further headaches.

Okeke -Ogene said the Court had shown that it was the last hope for the oppressed and common man.

Kanu was first arraigned on December 23, 2015 and granted bail on April 25, 2017.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday upheld the appeal of the detained leader of IPOB.

Some other residents, who did not want to be named, accused the IPOB leader of being the brain behind the killings of innocent people in Igbo land.

They said though Kanu had suffered in detention he should learn how to tame his followers, who according to them, had turned into monsters.

Okeke-Ogene said: “This singular act by the Court will equally lift Nigeria’s image in the International Community.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is happy with this development and we thank the Appeal Court on it’s action.”
