Prophetess, UNN graduate hang selves in Enugu

ENUGU

A PROPHETESS, and a graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) have reportedly taken their own lives in Enugu State.

The incident threw the Igogoro Agu community of Enugu-Ezike in  Igbo-Eze North council of the state into confusion.

The prophetess, Anthonia Odo Okwo, founder and general overseer of a prayer ministry, was said to have hanged herself on a tree on  Sunday evening.

The body of the graduate, Jeremiah Chibueze Ugwuoke (Jerry), was found also hanging from a tree.

He was said to have hanged himself last Friday.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the 39-year-old prophetess’s death was suspicious, adding that she did not leave any suicide note.

According to the source, the prophetess had on Sunday afternoon left her prayer ground after service and was nowhere to be seen until some persons saw her dead body dangling from a tree in the evening.

The source said, “It was unbelievable that the prophetess would just die like that. She prayed for people regularly and got them delivered of their problems. In fact, she specialised in casting away stubborn demons from people. I don’t believe she actually took her life. There’s more to her death than all of us can see.

“As I’m talking to you, everybody in the village is confused because Prophetess never showed that she had worries to the extent of taking her own life.”

Jerry, it was gathered, was found hanging from a tree by his colleagues in a forest in the community, a discovery which caused tension and confusion in the village.

Jerry was said to have graduated from  Combined Arts (English/History) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Before his death, the deceased was said to have sent an emotional message to his mother, but without giving any reason for commiting suicide.

His message to his mother reportedly read: “You are the best mother ever in this world. I’m sorry for disappointing you. Please”.

Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe was yet to respond to messages sent to him.
