National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Princess Gloria Akobundu, has urged politicians to desist from politics of character assassination.
Akonundu, who spoke with members of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Integrity Movement (ANIM) in her office, urged political parties to campaign about development, job creation, food security.
She urged parties and their candidates to ensure their campaigns were issued based.
The NEPAD chief every leader that governed Nigeria had contributed value to development of the country.
She said: “In as much as we defend our party, we also know that the opposition party is also a citizen of the country, so let us talk about development, economic growth, job creation, infrastructure, and food security.
“We should make sure that we uphold the unity and peace of our country. It is important that we know that one leader will emerge. It is also important to note that we have no other country than Nigeria”.
Akobundu noted that with the experience of APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as former governor, there is much to learn from him.
“There is a lot of productivity and vision I believe he will bring to bear, so that’s why the party is campaigning and requesting Nigerians to vote for him.
Speaking on President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements, she said eight years was not enough to take Nigeria to where it should be.
“What President Muhammadu Buhari did was to advance the course, and he took statistics of where we were, where we are today, and he is addressing our challenge, she noted.
“So, we are still building, a lot has been done, a lot is achieved, but remember development is not done in one day, eight years is not enough…
“We pray God gives us a visionary leader that can advance the course of the country…”, she noted.
