Antibalas’ Duke Amayo returns to Nigeria to launch solo career

DUKE Amayo, co-founder and lead singer of the popular Afrobeat band, Antibalas, recently returned to Nigeria for a 12-day tour to launch his career as a solo artist.

Amayo hand-selected a group of musicians to travel with him for the tour which featured new music compositions and fans’ favourites. The tour included both public and private performances at locations including Otis Jazz Place, Freedom Park, and climaxed at the New Afrika Shrine during the 2022 edition of Felabration.

He composed the entire Antibalas album ‘Fu Chronicles’ which was Grammy nominated for “Best Global Music Album of the Year” in 2020.

Amayo describes the new music he has written to perform as a solo act as “where Kung Fu meets Afrobeat.”

After the Nigerian tour, Amayo is billed to tour the United States with his new band as he plans an upcoming release of a new album, The Lion Awakes.
