Teachers’ reward not material, says Osinbajo

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said teachers’ reward cannot be quantified in material terms but in the success of the pupils.

He spoke in Lagos during the Eighth Maltina Teacher of the Year.

“Committed teachers’ joy comes from seeing their wards do well and become successful in life.  Success of students are their source of satisfaction… ” he said.

Alaku Ayiwulu of Federal Government  College, Jos,  won this year, and got N6.5 million from Nigerian Breweries, Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund.

He will participate in a development training abroad. A computer lab or six-classroom blocks worth N20 million will be built for his school.

First and second runners-up, Musa Saidu from Borno and Ifeoma Stella from Enugu got N1.5 million and N1,250,000. Otherss got N500,000 each.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, said the  award had become a standard of excellence and achievement.

He hailed Nigerian Breweries, saying the award would motivate teachers to contribute to nation-building.

A Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award was  presented to  Osinbajo, who also presented a recognition award to former Chairman of Nigerian Breweries, Felix Ohiwerei.

Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan, said 1,027 entries were received for 2022 but 833 entries were valid.

Morgan said valid entries in 2022  was the highest since  2015.
