Flamingos’ coach Bankole Olowookere has stressed that the lessons they have learnt from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup would be well internalized ahead of future challenges.
The Nigeria’s Under-17 Women’s side finished the competition with a Bronze medal for the first time in the competition’s history and equalled the record set by the Black Maidens of Ghana for Africa in the 2012 edition in Azerbaijan when they ended the competition in third spot after beating the same Germany 1-0.
An elated Olowookere said his girls did well to end the competition in third position and that he looks forward to a fruitful future for Nigerian Women’s football.
“I am a very happy man that we did not leave India empty-handed. It has been a great tournament with a lot of lessons learnt. We give God the glory,” Olowookere said.
The Flamingos led 3-0 at some stage in the game before they allowed the Germans to claw their way back to a 3-3 draw but Nigeria triumphed 3-2 on penalties.
Meanwhile, the victorious Flamingos will fly back into Nigeria at noon tomorrow.
