Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk may just be reconsidering a reduction of the $20 proposed fee on accounts with the blue badges.

It was reported Twitterwill soon start charging verified users $19.99 per month for the blue check mark verifying the authenticity of an account.

The development followed barely a few days after Elon Musk, completed his takeover of Twitter, stating the ‘whole verification process was going to be revamped’ but did not give details on it.

According to The Verge, a news website, Twitter accounts that already have the verification will have to comply with this new mechanism and pay up for the blue badge.

It said verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue check mark.

The intended $20 fee has since continued to stir reactions from users of the microblogging app with many registering their grievances

Stephen Edwin King, an American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novels reacting the news expressed disgust while insisting he ought to be paid and not the other way round.

“$20 a month to keep my blue check? Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron”, tweeted King.

Responding, the world’s richest man explained the need for the fee, proposing $8 as to the $20 earlier specified.

The 51-year-old billionaire founder of Tesla Inc,  “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?

“I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.”
