The North East Development Commission, (NEDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on how to deliver over 530 infrastructural projects initiated by the Commission to restore socio-economic activities in the region.
The MoU was signed at the Headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, said the MoU was designed 11 years after the region had suffered attacks on its infrastructures and the livelihoods of the people by the Boko Haram insurgents group.
He lauded the leadership of the NSE for collaborating with NEDC Engineers to fastrack the process of the MoU to ensure that quality projects and infrastructures that would stand the test of time are built in the region.
According to him, the Master Plan of strategic development and implementation of infrastructures in the Northeast have been produced to capture various economic activities such as commerce, education, agriculture, water resources, digitalisation, health, and peace building amongst the states, local governments and communities in the region.

Engr Gidari-Wudil said:”It is worthy of note that the leadership of NSE, through our Presidential Committee on North-East Rehabilitation and Development has watched with keen interest, the efforts of your Commission in the attainment of her mandate; rehabilitation and reconstruction of the North-East region. To this end, the NSE is eager to stand with you to ensure that you succeed on your mandate.
“You may wish to be informed that apart from our MoU with NEDC, the NSE-North-East Rehabilitation and Development Committee has successfully worked with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
“The NSE is presently working on an MoU with the NNPC-Gas and Power Investment Company (NNPC-GPIC); Chad Basin Development Authority, amongst others. More so, the Committee has been working with your Commission in the spirit of the signed MoU and we trust that we will work harmoniously together with you towards full implementation of the MOU.”
